Evolution of the Annealing Twin Density during -Supersolvus Grain Growth in the Nickel-Based Superalloy InconelTM 718

چکیده
Grain growth experiments were performed on InconelTM 718 to investigate the possible correlation of the annealing twin density with grain size and with annealing temperature. Those experiments were conducted at different temperatures in the supersolvus domain and under such conditions that only capillarity forces were involved in the grain boundary migration process. In the investigated range, there is a strong inverse correlation of the twin density with the average grain size. On the other hand, the twin density at a given average grain size is not sensitive to annealing temperature. Consistent with previous results for pure nickel, the twin density evolution in InconelTM 718 is likely to be mainly controlled by the propagation of the pre-existing twins of the growing grains; i.e., the largest ones of the initial microstructure. Almost no new twin boundaries are created during the grain growth process itself. Therefore, the twin density at a given average grain size is mainly dependent on the twin density in the largest grains of the initial microstructure and independent of the temperature at which grains grow. Based on the observations, a mean field model is proposed to predict annealing twin density as a function of grain size during grain growth.

Selective Growth of Low Stored Energy Grains During δ Sub-solvus Annealing in the Inconel 718 Nickel-Based Superalloy
The microstructure stability during d sub-solvus annealing in Inconel 718 was investigated, focusing on the conditions that may lead to the development of very large grains (about 100 lm) in a recrystallized fine grained matrix (4 to 5 lm) despite the presence of second-phase particles. Microstructure evolution was analyzed by EBSD (grain size, intragranular misorientation) and SEM (d phase par...

An experimental test was carried out to explosively clad solution annealed Inconel 718 superalloy on quench-tempered AISI H13 hot tool steel. A wavy with vortices interface geometry was obtained from this experiment. A gradual change in the wavelength along the direction of welding was observed which was due to a change in the impact angle, following the plate contacts. In this paper, the exper...
متن کاملThermo-mechanical factors influencing annealing twin development in nickel during recrystallization
The effects of prior stored energy level, annealing temperature, heating velocity, and initial grain size on annealing twin development during static recrystallization of commercially pure nickel (99.999 %) are investigated. The twin content (measured as the twin boundary density or as the number of twins per grain) at the end of recrystallization is shown to be primarily influenced by the prio...

Three-dimensional near-field high-energy X-ray diffraction microscopy has been used to observe the formation of new twinned grains in high purity Ni during annealing at 800 !C. In the fully recrystallized microstructure annealed at 800 !C, twinned grains form along triple lines. Both the grain boundary character and the grain boundary dihedral angles were measured before and after the twin form...
